Equipment

  • Sauce pan

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce low sodium
  • 1/2 cup spicy bbq sauce
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • 1/4 tbsp red pepper
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 tbsp garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger minced

Instructions

Step 1: Soy sauce mixture

  • In this step, start by mixing soy sauce, barbeque sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, honey, black pepper, and sesame seed oil. Make sure that the mixture is ready to be added to a saucepan after the garlic and ginger are ready. Many people prefer using barbecue sauce on stir fry sauce recipes whenever they have it. However, you can also opt to use hoisin sauce as a substitute for a barbeque recipe.

Step 2: cornstarch mixture

  • Cornstarch will serve as an excellent thickener in this particular stir fry sauce. However, you cannot add the cornstarch to the sauce while hot and boiling because it will end up clumping together. Therefore, you need to mix cold water with the cornstarch to prevent it from clumping together. You can use a small bowl and keep it aside until when you will need it.

Step 3: ginger and garlic

  • This is the part where you start cooking your sauce. First, begin by heating some olive oil, ground ginger, and minced garlic. In this step, you can use minced ginger or powdered garlic, if like. The amount of the ginger and garlic required will depend on the amount of sauce you want to make.

Step 4: the liquids

  • Once your olive oil is heated, you can now add the soy sauce mixture that you made in step 1. Continue stirring the mixture until it begins to boil. Make sure that you cook it over medium heat.

Step 5: pour in the cornstarch mixture

  • Lastly, add the water/cornstarch mixture in order to make your sauce thicker. It is important to make sure that you add the mixture slowly and whisk continuously if you don’t want it to clump. Continue cooking until your sauce reaches the desired thickness.

Step 6: storing your sauce

  • Wait for your stir fry sauce to cool before storing it in an airtight jar or container with a lid. You can now store your sauce in a freezer or fridge.
