Okonomiyaki is a delicious Japanese dish made of batter and cabbage. It’s usually topped with pork, shrimp, or squid and served with Worcestershire sauce, mayonnaise, and aonori (seaweed flakes). But being able to store it in the fridge will depend largely on if the toppings are already on there or not!

Okonomiyaki will last 3 to 4 days in the fridge, but with some toppings like squid, this time could be reduced to 1 to 2 days. Wrapping each pancake individually without any toppings or sauce will keep them fresh longest, and the batter could last up to 7 days.

I’ll let you in on how I store my okonomiyaki so you can save it for another day.

How long will okonomiyaki stay fresh in the fridge?

If you have leftovers and stored them in the fridge, they will last depending on the toppings you have:

  • Pork: 3-4 days
  • Shrimp: 2-3 days
  • Squid: 1-2 days
  • Toppings (aonori, mayonnaise, etc.): 3-4 days

Not having toppings on the okonomiyaki when storing it in the fridge is best since you won’t depend on how long those toppings will keep, plus it will become way less soggy when you reheat it especially without the sauce on there.

Can I store okonomiyaki batter?

You can store okonomiyaki batter in the fridge, or you can freeze it to keep it even longer. Just put it in a freezer bag or an airtight container, and it should keep perfectly.

You should watch out for the cabbage, though, because if it’s already in there, it will shorten the shelf-life a lot.

How long will okonomiyaki batter last in the fridge?

If you put okonomiyaki batter in an airtight container or bag in the fridge, it should keep for about 1 week, but if the cabbage is already in the batter, you should use it to make the pancakes within 2 days of storing.

You can always store the cooked okonomiyaki in the fridge again for a couple of days.

Tips for storing okonomiyaki

If you want to keep your okonomiyaki fresher for longer, here are some tips:

-Don’t put any toppings on the pancakes if you plan on storing them.

-Wrap them tightly in plastic wrap or aluminium foil.

-Place them in a single layer on a plate or in a container so they’re not touching each other.

With these tips, your okonomiyaki should last 3-4 days in the fridge. enjoy!
